Bright New Actors Getting to Know Michael Pitt with Satellite TV

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

When it comes to fresh faces on television, no show is attracting more attention these days than “Boardwalk Empire.” And while a number of well-known actors might be captivating audiences with their performances on what might be HBO’s most successful period piece to date, there is one who many people aren’t familiar with. While those who were fans of mediocre Sandra Bullock films and exciting, edgy arthouse fare will recognize him immediately, a vast majority of people enjoying “Boardwalk Empire” simply want to know who is this actor playing Jimmy, with a face sort of like Leonardo diCaprio and a capability for depth of performance unlike anything else out there right now on satellite tv?
The actor in question is named Michael Pitt, and “Boardwalk Empire” is most definitely not his first role on television, or with acclaimed actors. In fact, Michael Pitt has been in a bit of everything, but with the Scorcese-directed pilot to “Boardwalk Empire,” he might finally have a chance to cement his career on the silver screen, as well as on HDTV sets across the nation. And as a young, capable actor, there is no one who deserves the success or attention more.
Michael Pitt was first seen by many viewers during his short-lived guest role on “Dawson’s Creek,” which was capable but not particularly memorable acting for those who weren’t following the drama of the “Dawson’s Creek” kids in the first place. After this, he played Tommy Gnosis, a quite uncool midwestern kid turned glam rocker, in one of the most memorable indie films of the 2000s. First a play, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” was a chance for Pitt to enjoy cult fame, though it did not necessarily lead immediately to more chances to work. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, taking time to find “Hedwig” on satellite tv is much-recommended.
After this, Pitt began picking roles in big-name director films, enjoying the chance to act in the gritty Larry Clark picture “Bully” as well as to hold together Bertulucci’s homage to his own favorite films, “The Dreamers.” Pitt proved that he was capable of taking risks and pushing himself as an actor, but the NC-17 rating on “The Dreamers” and the violent content in “Bully” meant that while those who enjoyed the world of art films might know Michael Pitt, others weren’t quite familiar. The same can be said for his remake of the chilling German thriller “Funny Games,” which was definitely not the kind of picture that people would put on after dinner, unless the people in question happened to be bookish graduate students.
Pitt’s other movies, like the Sandra Bullock/Ryan Gosling thriller “Murder by Numbers” might be on satellite tv a lot of the time, but unfortunately, but isn’t really the best pick to see just how well he acts. That’s why it is so exciting that he managed to experience success in “Boardwalk Empire.” Finally, those doing the casting will be able to take a chance on a young actor who is more than talented enough to light up the silver screen. And considering that he previously appeared in a Steve Buchemi written and directed picture, and that he is now starring alongside him in “Boardwalk Empire,” it’s safe to say that Michael Pitt makes a big impression on those who work with him. Here’s to seeing many more years of his success on satellite tv and the silver screen.
Direct TV packages make combining film channels and others far easier than before. Let be your guide to a better viewing experience.
